Number the Stars Community Education Program

Number the Stars

Holocaust Awareness & Education

Join Haddonfield Plays & Players for a theatrical presentation of Number the Stars

Although Lois Lowry’s classic novel, Number The Stars is a work of historical fiction, it presents many very important truths about the Holocaust in a way that is accessible to young audience members. Now more than ever, it is vital that we bear witness to the atrocities committed during The Holocaust and tell the stories of the survivors to future generations.

Join Haddonfield Plays & Players as we observe the 20th anniversary of our groundbreaking Number the Stars program in raising Holocaust awareness in schools through theater.

Haddonfield Plays & Players provides educational resources to teachers and schools participating in the program, including:

  • Introductory PowerPoint: a presentation so teachers can introduce students to the history and themes present in Number the Stars, providing background information about The Holocaust and the Nazi occupation of Denmark.
  • Anticipation Guide: Students will evaluate a series of statements that are tied to the major themes in Number The Stars before and after the performance to see how their views may have shifted. This questionnaire can be used to initiate meaningful discussion.
